Criminal Defence Trial Lawyer

Jason is highly respected trial lawyer with 25 years of experience before all levels of the courts of British Columbia. During his career, Jason has appeared in trial courts on a daily basis. His focus has always been on defence work.

Jason’s trial experience ranges from Provincial Court matters through Supreme Court Jury trials. His appellate work has included bringing matters before the British Columbia Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada. Jason has the experience and expertise to guide you through any trial process.

Over the past several years, Jason has begun to focus on defending more complex trials. He regularly defends the most serious cases. Jason regularly appears on charges including murder, manslaughter, drug trafficking, and firearms offences.

David Jenkins

David Jenkins

David is a Northern BC boy, born and raised in Prince George.  After completing his law degree at the University of Alberta, David came home and completed his articles with his father David Jenkins (Sr.), K.C. who has been practicing criminal law in Prince George for over 50 years.  This invaluable experience and David’s tireless dedication to helping his clients have fostered him into becoming one of the most effective defence counsel in Northern BC.

David travels widely throughout BC and sometimes Alberta to advocate for clients charged with criminal offences or with Motor Vehicle Act or Wildlife Act offences.  He often utilizes his knowledge of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms to advocate on behalf of his clients who have had their rights violated.  David regularly appears in the BC Provincial Court, the BC Supreme Court, and has also appeared in the BC Court of Appeal.

In his spare time David spends time with his family.  He also enjoys playing hockey and lacrosse, as well as mountain biking, fishing and hunting.  The great outdoors is where he is most comfortable.  David believes that his life experiences have helped to make him a more well-rounded lawyer who is able to bring a truly Northern BC perspective to his work to better help his clients.

Connor Carleton

Connor Carleton

Barrister & Solicitor

Connor Carleton was born in Prince George, BC. Following graduation from Prince George Secondary School he moved around western Canada working and experiencing life in several locales. Connor first enrolled in the business program at the College of New Caledonia before switching to Criminology as an academic pursuit finding the subject matter far more interesting and fulfilling. Pursuing a bachelor of arts in Criminology led Connor to Simon Fraser University from which he graduated with Honours first class in 2007. Subsequently Connor attended law school at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan from the fall of 2008 until graduation in April of 2011.

Connor was called to the Bar in May of 2012 and since that time has practiced law exclusively as a Criminal Defence trial lawyer in Prince George and the surrounding area. Connor’s sole area of practice as a Lawyer is Criminal Defence law.

Keith Jones

Keith Jones

Barrister – Criminal Lawyer

Keith Jones was born in Victoria shortly after the war ended and attended school at St. Ann’s and St. Louis College before moving to Nanaimo in 1958. He finished High School at the Seminary of Christ the King in Mission and returned to Nanaimo. He was married in 1967 and started a business there. In 1978 Keith decided to sell the business and entered Law School as a mature student. He was called to the bar in 1982 and has practiced continuously in B.C. since then. Keith moved in 2004 to Prince George where he took a position as a staff lawyer with the Legal Services Society. When the local office of LSS shut down in 2010 he was pleased to be asked to join Third Avenue Law where he has remained ever since practicing exclusively in the field of criminal law.

Liam D Cooper

Liam D. Cooper

Barrister – Criminal Lawyer

Liam Cooper was born in Calgary, AB, and grew up in Southern BC. He relocated to Prince George in 2012, and entered the legal profession here as an articled student in 2013. Liam’s practice is centred in criminal defence, along with defending clients before administrative tribunals (BC Mental Health Review Board, Traffic Court, Canada Parole Board, Disciplinary Tribunals). In addition to his practice at Third Avenue Law, Liam has also worked for the BC First Nations Justice Council, Donald J. McKay Law Corporation in Victoria, BC, and the Public Prosecutions Service of Canada.

Liam appears regularly in Prince George, and has represented clients across the North, in courthouses such as Vanderhoof, Fort St. James, Quesnel and Williams Lake. He has also assisted clients with matters on Vancouver Island. Liam has experience dealing with a range of criminal charges, from theft under $5,000, to murder and attempted murder. He has appeared frequently before the Provincial and Supreme Courts of BC.

A dual citizen of Canada and the United States, Liam received degrees from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and the University of Washington, Seattle, before returning to BC to study for a JD at the University of Victoria. Prior to becoming a lawyer, Liam worked as an educator, and as a campaign organizer.

Beyond his work in the courtroom, Liam is devoted to promoting the well-being of his clients and their families, and is an active volunteer in the Prince George community. He previously served on the Board of the Prince George Pride Committee.

Liam was a founding Director of the Association of Legal Aid Lawyers. In 2019, he was a joint recipient of the Law Society of BC’s special award for Leadership in Legal Aid.

In his youth, Liam played competitive basketball and rugby, and won a BC Provincial gold medal for rowing in 1997. He spends his spare time pursuing hobbies such as gardening, foraging for wild plants, and working on various literary and artistic projects.
